If I was India's Energy Minister

If I were India's Energy Minister here is what I would do

1) Petition for $10 million from India's foreign exchange reserves to build solar power plants in Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu (three states with the maximum solar energy potential) and wind energy plants in viable areas in India

2) Add a tax of 5-10 paisa per unit for all non renewable sourced electricity used by anybody in India

3) Use the money garnered from 2) to enter into a 50-50 / 75-25 partnership with every house owner in India to have solar panels above his house and pay a competetive rate for every unit the person puts back into the grid

4) Have the banks in India give favourable loans to people who want to setup solar plants / solar panels on their houses

5) Increase subsidy on solar cars, make it cheaper for people to own a solar car vs petrol car

6) slowly bring parity between the cost of petrol to India and the cost to the consumer i.e. reduce/remove subsidy on petrol

7) Remove subsidy on disel for all private vehicles

8) Remove subsidy on LPG for all middle class and upper class people, move that subsidy to solar products (solar water heaters, solar cookers, solar lighting)

9) Fund research in India's top institutes for renewable energy products e.g. solar water pumps, solar cookers, solar lightning in houses etc

10) Declare a 10 year tax break for all renewable energy companies

11) Set up a vigilance cell to find all illegal power connections and bring them to book
